When parents become aware of their child’s need for special education, they step into a complicated world of services, teaching methods, classroom placements and laws… and expressed in educational jargon. A handbook (linked below) has been prepared to help you understand more about the educational jargon. This handbook has been prepared to help you understand more about the educational services in the Las Lomitas Special Education Program. It contains information about special education laws, referrals, assessment, IEP development and placement. Organizational and record keeping suggestions are included, as are parent rights and appeal procedures. Additionally, resources and definitions (including common acronyms) for special education are included to inform parent and teacher in their work with students who have special education needs.
