La Entrada PTA Programs and Services 2007 - 2008 The overall mission of the PTA is to foster academic excellence and social wellbeing of all students in conjunction and cooperation with administration and staff. Building community to: Enrich school climate, cultivate strong home and school relations and enhance parenting skills through education. Fundraisers for the School (All monies raised go directly back to the school) FOR THE LIBRARYADOPT A BOOK – La Entrada families and individuals purchase books to add to the library and increase awareness of library resources. Book plates are included in the adopted book. BOOK FAIR – Parents and students visit the annual Scholastic Book sale in the fall. All proceeds benefit the library. USED BOOK SALE – Donated books are organized and sold to parents, students and the community to raise funds for the library. (Offered every other year.) FOR THE ART PROGRAMART NOTE CARDS – Note cards featuring student’s original artwork are produced with teacher cooperation to raise funds to enrich visual and performing arts. Fundraisers for the PTA (Monies go toward programs and services) PTA MEMBERSHIP – Membership dues support all PTA programs and services, including newsletters and the directory. COOKBOOK SALES – La Entrada families contribute favorite recipes to this wonderful recipe book. FOOD DAYS – Individual lunches are sold to families. Profits pay for outreach lunches and add to overall annual budget. GIFT WRAP – Festive gift wrap is sold in the fall. All proceeds support PTA programs and activities. Programs and Services for Students, Parents and the CommunityCOMMUNITY SERVICE – This group helps increase awareness of need around our community with such programs as: JOY OF GIVING (Gifts at holiday time for children in need), WARM COMFORTS (Collect new hats and gloves to donate) and PET COMFORTS (Collect blankets, towels and pet toys for the local SPCA and Humane Society.) DIRECTORY - A directory, provided for all Las Lomitas District families, is published each year with current school, PTA and student information. FAMILY PICNIC – La Entrada families kick off the school year at this annual dinner and community-building event held in September. FOOD DAYS – Lunches are provided Tuesday through Friday to participating students. GEO BEE – This nation-wide event is a geography quiz held in the library. The winner is invited to qualify at state and national levels. GRADE LEVEL GATHERINGS – Parent social gatherings at volunteers’ homes promote a sense of community among parents of each grade level. HALLOWEEN EVENT – This annual event includes Halloween activities and entertainment for students during lunchtime. HOLIDAY FAIRE – A hands-on craft faire in which all students participate to create gifts for family and friends. HOSPITALITY – Snacks and refreshments are provided for various PTA events held on campus. LIBRARY LIAISON – Coordinates the Used Book Sale and works with the librarian to enhance the library. 7th and 8th GRADE DANCE LIAISON – A representative coordinates volunteers to chaperone and organize hospitality at Student Council sponsored dances. MAGAZINE SALE LIAISON – Volunteers assist the Student Council with their annual fundraiser for student programs. MENLO-ATHERTON HIGH SCHOOL LIAISON – A representative coordinates information for 8th graders and their parents in preparation for high school. NEW PARENT ORIENTATION – New families to the district are welcomed at two events early in the school year. NEWSLETTER – This biweekly PTA/School publication is a vital part of the communication efforts of the PTA and La Entrada. OUTREACH PROGRAMS – Parents can apply for outreach assistance. Tutoring is also available. PARENT ED PUBLICITY – The school counselor arranges Parent Education evenings and the PTA funds and helps advertise for these events. PTA BULLETIN BOARD – Information for upcoming events are posted on the bulletin board outside the office. SCIENCE EXPLORATIONS – This evening event showcases students’ science discoveries and achievements. Winning entries qualify to compete at the county and state levels. SPELLING BEE – This nation-wide event is a spelling quiz held in the library. The winner is invited to qualify at local, state and national levels. SPIRIT WEAR – Students and parents can support La Entrada by wearing the school logo. T-shirts, sweatshirts and other items can be purchased throughout the year. STAFF APPRECIATION COORDINATOR – A volunteer organizes special small events throughout the year to show continued appreciation to the teachers and staff. VOLUNTEER AND STAFF APPRECIATION TEA – An end of the year “Tea Social” is organized to recognize and honor teachers, staff, and special volunteers of the school and PTA. VolunteersAdditional volunteers are needed throughout the year to assist with non-PTA events. The PTA helps gather volunteers to help with such events as: Picture Day, Ear/Eye Testing, 7th & 8th Grade Dances, Magazine Sale tallying, Hoedown, Graduation, and Lunchtime Enrichment. New volunteer chairs are added as new events are created. OtherThe PTA sets a budget for the events and activities listed above during the summer before the school year begins. There are also two additional budget categories: Special Projects and Education and Curriculum Support that are available as needed throughout the year. Needs surely change from year to year and teachers and staff are invited to suggest ways in which they would like to have PTA support.
